Maternity Session Tips
Pregnancy is a wonderful stage in a women's life. Your body is doing something that is truly amazing that NEEDS to be remembered! As a mommy of 5, I know how it feels to be pregnant, and it is not always comfortable. Especially during your last weeks, but I am so thankful I captured it!
Maternity sessions are to help you celebrate, document and remember the life that you are growing inside of you. Each and every pregnancy is different and only happens once! You can't get that time back. It's so important to have these images to look back on. It also happens to be one of my favorite kinds of sessions. I love the glamour, romance, the mommy glow and most of all the beautiful belly that comes with each maternity session. Maternity sessions can take place either in my studio or on location. Significant others and siblings are encouraged to join is as well.
1. When to Schedule
For most, the perfect time for your maternity session seems to be somewhere between the 30 and 36-week mark. This is when you are feeling your best and are most comfortable. It is the time where your belly is the perfect size but you are not swollen and puffy like you will be towards the final couple of weeks of your pregnancy.
2. What to Wear
One of the most important decisions you will make regarding your maternity session is what you will wear. This will play a major role in how your feel during the session as well as the photographs once they are completed.
I have a variety of gowns available for you to choose from, or you are welcome to wear clothing of your own. My goal is to show off your beautiful baby body so some of the clothes you should pick should be more snug fitting. A couple of examples of these are chunky sweaters that you pull around your belly, tight shirts to show off the curves or long flowy dresses .
If you are concerned about the colors you are selecting I can tell you that solid colors tend to work the best. If you are looking for advice on specific colors, I will tell you that this decision is completely up to you. However, some of my favorites are neutral muted tones. This will help to create more timeless photographs. The only thing that is important is that you feel the most comfortable, confident and beautiful as you can be. If you are having your family join you, make sure to coordinate outfits. You want the colors to compliment each other and limit patterns. Pinterest has so many guides!!!!
3. Drink Plenty of Fluids
Make sure you drink plenty of fluids before your session. This will keep your skin looking vibrant and hydrated.
4. Pamper Yourself!
One of the pieces of advice that I give all of my moms to be is that you should pamper yourself before your session. You won't be pregnant forever (although it seems it). What this means is get your hair done or get you nails or a pedicure done. It'll life your spirits before your session. If you don’t have time to do this, I ask that you at least remove old nail polish and file your nails. You hands will be in many of the images holding your beautiful baby bump.
5. Relax
Being in front of a camera is hard for most. Try not to stress! We WILL capture beautiful images together. We will have fun and joke around. Are you bringing young kids? Well I can't guarantee that they cooperate for the stand and look at the camera images, after all kids will be kids. But I will get beautiful interaction images of you being YOU with them.
I can't wait to show you how beautiful you are!
